Full Time Faculty Positions
Sowela is experiencing rapid growth. In order to meet the challenge of increased enrollment and continue providing high-quality educational
experiences for all its students, Sowela is seeking applicants for full-time instructors in the following curriculum areas.
Process Technology
Nine-month positions with possibility of summer employment to teach process safety, health and environmental issues,
process equipment and systems, instrumentation and control, troubleshooting, and more.
Applicants must have an Associate Degree in Process Technology or BS degree in Engineering (MS degree preferred);
plus 10 years experience in the Process Industry with at least 5 years in plant operations or maintenance.
Commercial Art
Nine-month full-time position with possibility of summer employment to teach Advertising Design.
The applicant must have knowledge of Adobe Software including Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, Flash, and Dreamweaver.
Knowledge of Word and Excel is helpful.
An Associate Degree in Advertising Design/Commercial art and 5 years experience is required.
A Master’s degree in related field is a plus.
Culinary Arts
Nine-month position with possibility of summer employment to teach culinary arts.
Candidate must possess strong management or supervisory experience in fine dining, and have full service, professional kitchens teaching experience.
Applicant must demonstrate knowledge and skills in both front and back-of-house food operations.
Candidate must have the ability to work as a team player in a multi-cultural, diverse work environment.
Experience with multi-cultural students and staff preferred.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree, or higher or equivalent in culinary or hospitality industry.
The following may be substituted for the associate’s degree: Experience, Knowledge, and Skills with at least 8 years in the field.

Aviation Maintenance Technology
Full-time 12-month instructor position for growing FAA Part 147 program at Sowela Technical Community College located in Lake Charles, LA.
Instructor must possess the Airframe and Power plant FAA certificates and minimum of an Associate Degree in aviation or related field.
Five (5) years of experience in aviation maintenance preferred. Position currently grant funded.
Automotive Technology
Adjunct Instructor position available for the fall semester. Certification required: ASE Master Automobile Technician.
Work experience required: five years as a Master Technician. Post-secondary teaching experience preferred but not required.
Associate degree or diploma in field or related a plus.

Welding Instructor
Teaching assignments will include using NCCER Annotated Training Guide, managing and grading Performance Profile exercises.
Available to teach Welding classes Monday thru Friday 7:30am to 4pm at Sowela’s main campus.
If not an NCCER Certified Instructor, willing to attend 24hrs of classroom training at Sowela to become an NCCER Certified Instructor
Qualification required are: AWS certification, have six (6) or more years as a journeyman level welder; enjoy sharing knowledge with others;
communicates clearly; can manage 20 or more adult students. Former teaching experience is a plus, but not required.

This position reports directly to the Chancellor. The Executive Director will provide leadership for all of the major unit functions of assessment,
institutional research, institutional effectiveness, performance funding and strategic planning.
The successful candidate must possess a Master’s degree with graduate courses in research methods and statistics plus a minimum of five years of experience
in college planning, institutional effectiveness, institutional research, performance funding, or equivalent areas.
Applicant should demonstrate leadership and accomplishments in the field of institutional planning and research.
They must have demonstrated supervisory abilities, the capability to work with others in solving problems, and experience moving projects forward to successful completion.

Chair for Department of Nursing

This position reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Student Success. The Department Chair will provide
leadership for all of the major unit functions for the following areas: Course Scheduling and Staffing, Curriculum Development,
Policy Development, Student Recruitment, Faculty Recruitment, Faculty Evaluations, Professional Development and Budget Management.
